FAEROE ISLANDS

A. THE COUNTRY

An autonomous region of Denmark, the Faeroe Islands are an archipelago
of 18 rugged islands in Europe, 16 of which are inhabited.  This
parliamentary democracy is usually represented  by coalition
governments.  All trade is governed by special treaties, and almost all
exports are related to the fishing industry.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population is ~50,200 and the official languages Faeroese and
Danish.  ~97% are Faeroese, ~2.6% Danish, ~0.4% Other.

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM

90.59% claim to be Christian, ~9.28% Non-religious, ~0.08% Other, ~0.05%
Baha’i.  In the Christian category:
~87.58% are Protestant, ~1.4% Unaffiliated, ~0.86% Independent, ~0.34%
Catholic, ~0.31% are considered ‘marginal’.
Evangelicals represent ~28.8% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~5.2% and of those ~2.1% are Pentecostals.
The Faeroe Islands send a proportionately large number of Christian
missionaries – around 100 in more than 20 countries.
