St. Pierre and Miquelon

   ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON

A. THE TERRITORY

Territorial Collectivity of St. Pierre and Miquelon is an island group
at the mouth of Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence, south of the province of
Newfoundland.  It is an overseas territorial collectivity of France and
is heavily dependent on French economic aid.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population ~6,000 and official language French.  The people are
predominantly Breton and Basque origin.

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY

~96.94% claim to be Christian, ~3.06% Non-religious.
In the Christian category:
~96.46% are Catholic, ~0.31% are considered ‘marginal’, ~0.17%
Protestant.
Evangelicals represent <0.1% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~0.5% of the population.
There is no longer a formal evangelical or Protestant presence in the
islands.
