VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE USA

A. THE TERRITORY

The Virgin Islands of the USA is in the Leeward Islands in the
Caribbean.  It is a self-governing unincorporated US territory comprised
of three larger and fifty smaller islands.  Tourism is the mainstay of
the economy.  The industry base is growing, with one of the largest oil
refineries in the world.  Thousands of poor immigrants have bolstered
the workforce but created tension in society as well.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population is ~109,000 and official language English.  ~74% are
Caribbean, ~26% Others (American, Puerto Rican, European, Asian).

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM
~94.95% claim to be Christian, ~3.5% Non-religious, ~0.7% Baha’i, ~0.45%
Hindu, ~0.3% Jewish, ~0.1% Muslim.
In the Christian category:
~31.52% are Protestant, ~26.98% Catholic, ~19.1% Unaffiliated, ~10.06%
Anglican, ~0.32% Orthodox.
Evangelicals represent ~23.8%  of the population.
Charismatics represent ~16.5% and of those ~9.6% are Pentecostals.
Jehovah’s Witnesses have ~1,500 affiliates.
