 LUXEMBOURG

A. THE COUNTRY

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a landlocked country in western Europe.
Government is a parliamentary democracy with a monarch.  It has the only
sovereign Grand Duchy in the world, but his powers have been reduced to
a virtually nominal status after disputes with parliament over
euthanasia.  The economy is highly industrialized and diversified, with
a highly educated multilingual workforce and excellent infrastructure.
Banking and finance are dominant economic elements, and the country is
attractive for its low taxes.  The capital city has several institutions
and agencies of the European Union.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population is ~494,000 and official language French.  German
dominates education and the newspapers.  Letzebuergesch is the national
language.  English learning is compulsory in schools.

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM

It is tradition more that conviction that keeps Luxembourg Catholic, and
the Church has established conventions and thereby financial support.
Other religions and atheism have been growing rapidly.  Government and
society have a negative bias toward Evangelicals.
~81.63% claim to be Christian, ~15.77% Non-religious, ~1.9% Muslim,
~0.3% Baha’i, ~0.2% Other, ~0.2% Jewish.
In the Christian category:
~79.31% are Catholic, ~1.96% Protestant, ~1.02% Orthodox, ~0.19%
Independent, ~0.12% Anglican.
Evangelicals represent ~0.5% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~0.8% and of those ~0.1% are Pentecostals.
