MONTSERRAT

A. THE TERRITORY

British Overseas Territory of Montserrat is one of the Leeward Islands
in the Caribbean.  It is a dependent territory and, without British
assistance after the volcanic eruptions in the 1990’s, the island
probably would not have been reestablished.  It will never completely
recover.

B. THE PEOPLE

The population is ~6,000 and official language English.
~97% are African Caribbean, ~2% Euro-American, ~1% Other.

C. RELIGIONS AND CHRISTIANITY/PENTECOSTALISM

All figures are estimates because of the upheaval in population.
~95.3% claim to be Christian, ~2.7% Non-religious, ~2% Baha’i.
In the Christian category:
~38.41% are Protestant, ~26.84% Anglican, ~18.45% Catholic, ~7.9%
Unaffiliated, ~3.35% Independent, ~0.35% are considered ‘marginal’.
Evangelicals represent ~23.4% of the population.
Charismatics represent ~14.1% and of those 12.9% are Pentecostals.
